Toxic Triggers, Pt 2: Heaven in O’Hareland

Note: This is Part 2 of an 11-part series of short posts on what triggers memories of ex-lover B., culminating on October 11, 2014, the First Anniversary of when he kissed me goodbye. Literally. His kiss was a kiss-off. I have not seen him since.

TRIGGER #2: Damned near every hotel in the vicinity of O’Hare Airport

As both our homes were generally off-limits, most all of our assignations through 2009 were at hotels. The area around O’Hare seemed to work well for most of those early years as that’s where B.’s office was located. Or it was equidistant from each of our homes. Or just plain convenient for us when he’d fly in hours earlier than he told his wife so he could steal a few hours alone with me. I came to love the feel of crisp, cool hotel bed sheets on my hot skin.

We rarely stayed more than 4 hours but we fucked in nearly every hotel in the general vicinity of the airport. Driving through that area is tough. Damned tough, as the Ghost Of Fucks Past keeps rearing its ugly unwanted head.

How do I kill the ghost?

A former mistress (26 years, on-and-off) describes the good, the bad, and the ugly of her long-term affair. Conclusion: Affairs aren't necessarily destructive if kept in the correct perspective. Our experience enhanced BOTH our marriages.

That is, until his marriage ended and we began to love each other. When the affair morphed into a relationship, well, that's when it stopped being fun for me. We have now irrevocably split.

Lately I've been writing about the man who took his place in the "off" years of that 26-year-long affair. He was a dynamic sexual partner but we, too, now have irrevocably split.

These are our stories.
